A steep-roofed A-frame in a grove of tall pines at the top of a hollow above Phoenicia.

Inside it is lined in cedar: a wood stove, a kitchen built for real cooking, a table by the window and a ladder up to the sleeping loft under the peak. A second bed sits downstairs. The Esopus, the diner and the trailheads up Tremper Mountain are ten minutes down the road; at night it is very dark and very quiet.

Check-in was easy, the place was warm when we arrived, and the little guide to the area was genuinely useful.

Our kids loved it and so did we. Plenty of space, a great outdoor area and very fair for what you get.

Great stay overall — the road in is a bit rough after rain, so take it slowly.
